Tips To Not Over-Engineer Your Wedding
Is it possible to over-engineer your wedding? 1000% There’s a big difference between a well-planned wedding and trying to control every aspect of the evening. My biggest advice when it comes to maintaining the delicate balance of keeping the dance floor full but also providing an immersive experience is to take the following recommendations into account.
Important considerations:
Bar Placement - Opt for a bar in your reception area verses having it outside the room.
Photo Booth - This will naturally pull groups of people away but is arguably the most popular wedding extra right now. Consider how many “other” elements you have planned and prioritize just one or two of these.
Cigar Rolling Station - While a unique touch, unless your wedding is outdoors this is typically in a separate outdoor space. Expect this to pull groups of guests away for a considerable amount of time as an artist hand rolls each one at a time and then guests enjoy smoking them over long conversation with others.
Dessert Service - Sometimes even I see the dessert being served and can’t blame guests for leaving the dance floor to indulge in these decadent treats. Carefully consider when this course will be served and see if it overlaps with any time when guests will already be seated.
Add in:
Live entertainment - Certain elements pull people to the dance floor. One of these is live entertainers that can travel throughout the crowd and amp them up. Think: saxophone artists, mirrored performers that act as human disco balls, samba dancers, etc.
Skip:
Karaoke - Know your audience. Most people don’t expect karaoke at a wedding. Not only are most unprepared to perform, but it’s difficult to dance to karaoke songs. The songs last longer than clips DJs would play and transitions aren’t smooth from one singer to another. If this is something really important to you, consider adding it to the the end of your rehearsal dinner.
