The Destination DJ: Top Tips For Travel Gigs
Did you know that I travel domestically and internationally for weddings and events? No matter where your celebration is taking place, I can bring the party. From destination weddings abroad to the continental US, I have the ability and expertise to work at any venue without any added stress to you. As a DJ who’s spent a decade commuting across the country for gigs, I can safely say that being on the road isn’t for everyone. Whether you’re navigating a new part of the globe with a language barrier or fighting for your life in Los Angeles during rush hour, traveling can take a toll on you. I personally love exploring new cities and live by these tips to make travel a breeze:
Give Yourself Plenty Of Time - Always fly out the day before! This is where most people go wrong. They try to work multiple events on a single weekend in different cities and cut it too close for comfort in my opinion. There’s a reason professional athletes travel to the destination before the big game. Your mind needs to be focused fully on the couple and event, not stressing over delays, trying to re-book a flight, ensuring your luggage/gear makes it in the air and rescheduling your rental car.
Don’t Sleep On Time Zone Changes – Operating a bi-coastal business means frequently adjusting to a three hour time difference. Have you ever worked until 1 am, only to realize that’s the equivalent to 4 am on your regular schedule? The later you work, the more intense you feel the effects of a time change. Arriving the day before gives your body time to adjust to a new schedule and you the opportunity to get to bed early to ensure you are recharged and your mind is sharp.
Stay Loyal To An Airline - This one’s a no-brainer. You can’t put a price on relaxing in a luxurious lounge pre-flight. Delta, I’m looking at you. And of course, there are the obvious perks like early boarding, complimentary bags and racking up miles.
