New Trend: Performing at Your Own Wedding

One trend I’m seeing that doesn’t leave a dry eye in the house: the groom performing a song for his new bride during the reception in front of all of their friends and family. It’s such a unique way for couples to share a special moment while including all of their guests. Here are my top four tips for serenading your sweetheart…

Tip 1: Perform early in the evening. As the day goes on, you’re talking with so many people that your voice can easily become tired and sound hoarse. By the end of the night, it’s not uncommon for the bride and groom to lose their voices.

Tip 2: Plan your song in advance with the DJ. Make sure we are prepared with mics and sound to help you flawlessly execute your vision.

Tip 3: Pick a song you feel comfortable with. Don’t try to be John Legend unless you share his vocal range. Keep in mind, nobody is expecting you to be a Grammy award-winning artist.

Tip 4: Enjoy cocktail hour but be mindful of how many beverages you want to consume before you sing. This goes hand in hand with tip #1. Opt for an earlier performance instead of closing out the evening with your song.
