Interviewing DJs For Our Wedding

How many vendors did you speak with before finding the right fit? Wedding planning has given me a whole new perspective on building the perfect team.

I’ve been on the other end of the hiring process plenty of times, but now that the tables are turned I am realizing how hard and personal the decision is. So far, my fiancé and I have interviewed five DJs for our 2023 wedding.

The first DJ had a degree in music and plays an instrument so I was super stoked. But after our call, he actually said he didn’t think we were a right fit because his style is more of a “remixologist”.

The second DJ was with someone I wasn’t originally going to consider but they came highly recommended. The most recent mix on their website was from seven years ago. While he was familiar with bands that Mandy and I like, we had some concerns about his professionalism when he forgot our call and then provided no follow up, a sample mix we requested or a quote. Radio silence.

The third DJ is considered one of the best DJs in Atlanta with a background in radio so we have a lot in common. However, it wasn’t the right vibe.

The fourth DJ is a friend and all-around good dude! He has great mixes and knows how to pick good songs to put together. We both hear music similarly and our styles match. He’s the frontrunner so far!

More to come on our wedding vendor journey, but for now I’ll keep taking my own advice to find the perfect wedding DJ.
