Water and DJs Don’t Mix
Water and DJs don’t mix. Period. When it comes to weather, California is known for two things: sunshine and droughts. So imagine my surprise when I DJed a Santa Barbara wedding this December during a literal monsoon.
The reception took place in a beautiful outdoor courtyard with plenty of charm. The rain plan: a retractable roof. However, nobody (the roof included) was quite prepared for hours on end of heavy rain. The weather was unrelenting and the ceiling started to drip, with some water leaking down the wall to the electrical outlet. There was a visible puddle. A damp mist was beginning to form on tables and chairs. What would you have done in this situation?
In true Boy Scout fashion, I came up with a backup plan to move my setup to a drier area that still provided a view of the dance floor. If you can’t read the room and body language, you are toast (which I probably would’ve been if I stayed by the original power source). While the off-site ceremony was taking place, the venue was frantically reconfiguring the room layout.
All in all, the wedding was great and the awesome couple didn’t let the weather ruin their celebration. What’s your philosophy on rain on your wedding day? Do you think it’s good luck or means something else?
